Your images are converted on this device and are never uploaded.
PNG keeps transparency and every pixel, so files are often larger.
How to use Image Converter
- Choose JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF or BMP files, or drag them onto the drop area. Each file is checked by its real contents, not just its name.
- Pick the input format (or leave it on automatic) and the output format you want.
- Press Convert. Conversion happens in your browser and each result is verified before it is offered.
- Check the preview and the before and after file sizes, and read any notes.
- Download each file, or take several at once as a ZIP.
About this tool
This is the general-purpose converter. Select which input format you expect (or leave it on automatic) and choose JPG, PNG or WebP as the output. Every file is identified by its real contents rather than its file name, so a mislabelled file is reported instead of silently producing a broken result.
Converting to JPG fills transparent areas with white because JPEG cannot store transparency. Converting to PNG or WebP keeps transparency. JPG and lossy WebP are lossy formats, so converting a file into them re-encodes the pixels; PNG output is lossless but often much larger for photos.
Formats and browser compatibility
Accepted input: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF or BMP.
JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP and WebP are decoded by every current browser. AVIF needs Chrome 85+, Edge 121+, Firefox 93+ or Safari 16.4+. HEIC is decoded natively in Safari and by a built-in decoder that loads only when you add a HEIC file. Animated GIF and WebP files are converted using their first frame.
WebP output requires a browser that can encode WebP (Chrome, Edge, Firefox). Safari cannot encode WebP, and the tool will tell you so rather than hand you a different format under the wrong name.
Practical uses
- Turn a WebP or AVIF download into a JPG or PNG that older software accepts.
- Convert a PNG screenshot to a smaller JPG for email.
- Batch-convert a folder of photos to one format before uploading.
Tips for better results
- Use PNG when you need transparency or crisp text and line art; use JPG for photographs.
- Keep your original files. Converting to a lossy format discards detail you cannot get back.
- Lower the JPG or WebP quality slider to get a smaller file.
Frequently asked questions
Which formats can I convert between?
You can read JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF and BMP files and write JPG, PNG or WebP. Support for AVIF, HEIC and WebP output depends on your browser, and the tool reports it when something is unavailable.
Why does my transparent PNG get a white background?
Only when you convert to JPG. JPEG has no transparency, so transparent pixels are flattened onto white. Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
Can it convert animated images?
The converter outputs a single still image, using the first frame of an animated GIF or WebP.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is processed in your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to Paul Digital or any other server.
