About this tool
Take-home pay is your salary minus Income Tax and employee National Insurance. In 2026/27 the first £12,570 is tax-free. The next £37,700 is taxed at 20%, income up to £125,140 at 40%, and anything above at 45%. The tax-free allowance shrinks by £1 for every £2 earned over £100,000.
Employee National Insurance is 8% on earnings between £12,570 and £50,270, and 2% above £50,270. This calculator is for England, Wales and Northern Ireland with the standard tax code. Scottish Income Tax uses different bands, and pension, student loan and benefits are not included.
How it is calculated
Income Tax = 20% / 40% / 45% on income above the Personal Allowance, using the bands above.
National Insurance = 8% × (earnings between £12,570 and £50,270) + 2% × (earnings above £50,270).
Take-home = salary − Income Tax − National Insurance.
