How to use PDF to Word
- Select a PDF that has selectable text, or drag it onto the drop area.
- Wait while the tool reads each page and builds the Word document. It shows which page it is on.
- Check the summary: pages read, headings and paragraphs found, and any pages that were left out.
- Download the .docx file and open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. Check the layout before you use it.
About this tool
PDF to Word pulls the text out of a PDF and rebuilds it as an editable .docx document. It uses the position of each piece of text on the page to join lines into paragraphs and to recognise headings, and it keeps bold and italic where it can tell them apart. It is meant for reusing the words of contracts, reports, articles, CVs and school work.
It is a text converter, not a layout copier. Tables, columns, images and the exact look of the page may not be kept, so treat the result as a starting point that needs a quick read-through. If a PDF is a scan, the pages are pictures of text, not text, and this version cannot read them because it has no OCR; those pages are reported and left out.
Conversion happens on your device, so a confidential document is never sent anywhere.
Limits and what to expect
- PDF up to 50 MB and 500 pages.
- Only PDFs with selectable text. Scanned pages are left out, and a PDF with no text at all is rejected with a clear message.
- Tables, columns, images and exact page layout may not be kept.
- Password-protected or damaged PDFs are rejected.
Tips
- Check whether you can select text in the PDF. If you can, it will convert.
- Open the .docx and review headings and lists, which are the most likely to need a tidy.
- For a scanned page, use an OCR tool first to get text.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a PDF to Word?
Select a PDF that has selectable text and wait a moment. The tool builds a .docx file, which you download and open in Word or another editor.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
No. A scanned PDF is made of page pictures, and this version has no OCR. It tells you which pages had no text instead of producing an empty file.
Will the layout match the PDF?
Not exactly. Text, headings, bold and italic are kept where possible, but tables, columns and images may not be, so check the document before you use it.
Is the Word file editable?
Yes. It is a normal .docx document that you can edit in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is read and processed in your browser on your own device. It is not sent to Paul Digital or any other server, and nothing is kept when you close the page.
