Image to Word

Place images into a real Word .docx document, one per page, in your browser.

Drag and drop images here

Accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF or BMP · select several at once · up to 50 MB each

Your images are placed into the document on this device and are never uploaded.

Each image goes on its own page, scaled down to fit the margins and never enlarged. This places images in the document; it does not extract editable text.

How to use Image to Word

  1. Choose one or more images, or drag them onto the drop area.
  2. Use the arrows to set the page order and Remove to drop any image you do not want.
  3. Pick A4 or US Letter and press Create Word document.
  4. Download the .docx and open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs.
  5. Need the words in the picture as editable text? Run JPG to Text or PNG to Text instead.

About this tool

This tool builds a standard .docx file (Office Open XML) that contains your images, sized to fit an A4 or US Letter page with sensible margins. You can then add text around them, resize them or print the document from Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs.

Embedding an image does not make its words editable. If you need the text from a picture or screenshot, use JPG to Text or PNG to Text, which run optical character recognition (OCR), then paste the result into your document.

Formats and browser compatibility

Accepted input: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF or BMP.

JPG and PNG files are embedded exactly as supplied (JPEG files that rely on an EXIF rotation flag are re-saved upright). WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF and BMP files are converted to PNG first, so they appear in every version of Word. Animated images use the first frame.

The document opens in Microsoft Word 2007 or later, LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs and Apple Pages. Images are not scaled up beyond their natural 96 dpi size. Very large collections create large files, since images are stored as they are.

Practical uses

  • Insert a scanned form or receipt into a Word file for submission.
  • Collect several screenshots into one document, one per page.
  • Prepare images for annotation in Word.

Tips for better results

  • Use the arrows to put the pages in the order you need before creating the document.
  • Wide images get a landscape page automatically.
  • Compress very large photos first to keep the .docx small.
