About this tool
US checks need the amount in words as well as figures. Dollars come after the number, with cents added after “and”: One Thousand Two Hundred Thirty-Four Dollars and Fifty-Six Cents Only.
Amounts are rounded to the nearest cent. Use lower case or UPPER CASE letters if your form prefers them.
Examples
- 1234.56 USD is written “One Thousand Two Hundred Thirty-Four Dollars and Fifty-Six Cents Only”.
- One Dollar Only.
- Ninety-Nine Cents Only.
Tips
- Amounts are rounded to two decimal places, as on a cheque.
- Check that the words and the figures match before you sign.
- Turn off “Only” if your form does not use it.
