About this tool

The Public Provident Fund (PPF) is a government-backed long-term savings scheme with a standard term of 15 years. The interest rate is set by the government and can change every quarter.

This calculator assumes the full yearly deposit is made at the start of each year and the rate stays the same. In practice the rate can change, so treat the result as an estimate and enter the latest rate.

How it is calculated

Each year: balance = (previous balance + deposit) × (1 + rate). The maturity value is the balance after the last year.

Worked examples

  • ₹1,50,000 a year at 7.1% for 15 years: maturity ₹40,68,209.22, from ₹22,50,000.00 deposited.

Tips for better results

  • Check the current rate on the official post office or bank site and enter it.
  • Deposits made before the 5th of the month earn that month's interest, so time them.
  • A PPF account can be extended after 15 years in blocks of 5 years.
