JPEG to PNG
Convert JPEG or JPG photos to PNG in your browser.
Drag and drop JPG / JPEG files here
Accepts JPG / JPEG · select several at once · up to 50 MB each
Your images are converted on this device and are never uploaded.
PNG keeps transparency and every pixel, so files are often larger.
How to use JPEG to PNG
- Choose JPG / JPEG files, or drag them onto the drop area. Each file is checked by its real contents, not just its name.
- Adjust the quality if the output is JPG, otherwise leave the defaults.
- Press Convert to PNG. Conversion happens in your browser and each result is verified before it is offered.
- Check the preview and the before and after file sizes, and read any notes.
- Download each file, or take several at once as a ZIP.
About this tool
PNG stores every pixel without further loss, so it is a good working format for editing, annotating and archiving an image you already have. Converting a JPEG to PNG does not restore detail that JPEG compression already removed.
Expect a larger file: PNG versions of photographs are typically several times bigger than the JPEG. The PNG will not have transparency, because a JPEG has no transparent pixels to carry over.
Formats and browser compatibility
Accepted input: JPG / JPEG.
Works in every current browser. Photos with an EXIF rotation flag are saved upright. Metadata such as camera model and GPS is not copied into the PNG.
Very large photos need memory to decode; the tool limits input to 50 MB and 100 megapixels.
Practical uses
- Edit a photo repeatedly without adding fresh JPEG compression each save.
- Use an image in software that requires PNG.
- Add transparency later in an image editor starting from a lossless file.
Tips for better results
- Use JPEG for photographs you share, PNG for graphics, screenshots and editing.
- If the PNG is too large, compress it afterwards with the Image Compressor.
- Converting back to JPEG later will lose a little quality again.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPEG to PNG improve quality?
No. It keeps what is in the JPEG exactly but cannot bring back detail that was already lost.
Why is the PNG larger?
PNG compresses without loss and is less efficient than JPEG for photographs.
Will it be transparent?
No. JPEG images have no transparency, so the PNG is fully opaque.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is processed in your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to Paul Digital or any other server.
